Artists Sunday and the California Art Club

The California Art Club (CAC) is a fine organization which was founded in 1909 in Pasadena, California. The Club has as its focus representational art, and the CAC may be the most prestigious organization of its kind in California. While in person exhibits are problematic in this Covid era, they have embraced virtual exhibition as an alternative. They are soon to be presenting a virtual exhibit titled “Welcome to California.” One of my paintings, Sea Spring, an 11×14 oil on canvas, will be featured in this exhibition.

“This painting was completed plein air while standing beside the Coast Highway in Big Sur. The colors of spring reflected in the waters and the gracious S curve of the coastline attracted me to paint this scene.

This stretch of the California Coast is an ambassador to the world.  I always meet many people from around the world when painting here. The immensity of the view reminds me of how small my part is in the greater whole. I am humbled and thankful to be here.”

The exhibit will open to the public virtually on November 29th to coincide with Artists Sunday, a national movement to encourage art lovers to shop for art during the Thanksgiving shopping weekend, and give artist-created gifts this holiday season. On this Sunday after Thanksgiving, art venues are encouraging people to support artists and craftspeople by shopping for their creations. (It’s like Black Friday or Small Business Saturday but for Art.) Join me in supporting artists – including my fellow artists in the California Art Club – and shop for art the Sunday after Thanksgiving!
