Looking for safe fun this Labor Day Weekend? Here's an idea. Visit a Virtual Art Fair, by yourself or along with friends or family, "together" while apart.
Kings Mountain Art Fair is one of the premier outdoor Art Fairs in the Western US. This volunteer run, not for profit event is designed to help artists and provide funds for the local community Elementary School and the local Fire Department. Great People run the show! For over 50 years, this event has been held out in a redwoods park all 3 days of Labor Day Weekend.
This year, with the virus present in our communities, the King’s Mountain Art Fair will be a Virtual Event! I'll miss the Redwoods, but hopefully I'll be able to make virtual connections. You may ask:
What is a virtual art fair?
The event, which attracts thousands of visitors each year, will be run through a website. The main page will have well over 50 "tiles", or little sections, one for each artist. When you find an artist of interest you can view pictures of some of their art, usually watch a short video by the artist, and best of all, you can enter into a video chat right in the tile.
Clicking the "Chat" button is essentially entering the artist's booth. The artist will be on camera in their studio, ready to describe their art, their techniques, and their motivations. Get to know the artist, and if you want to see detailed descriptions of the artist's work for sale, most have a website link where you can do so. (All sales yield commissions which support the charities mentioned above.)
These virtual booths will allow in several visitors at a time, though we expect many times you will get one on one time with the artist if you like. Visit with friends, each in your own homes, and you can enter the same chat rooms "virtually together." All you need is a computer or device with a camera and microphone. Please visit me in my Booth.
The show website goes LIVE at 10AM this Saturday Sept 5. It runs 10am-4pm all three days of Labor Day Weekend. To join the show, click and register at the the Art Fair's website: (https://kingsmountainartfair.org/)
What else should I know?
When you get into the art fair website, you’ll find tiled sections for all the participating artists – our “virtual Booths.” You can select an art or craft category of interest to narrow the field, then scroll to find artists of interest. I'm in the category "2D/Painting."
This will be the first time for me (and many others) to participate in a virtual show, so if it's new to you, we'll learn together.
I can put my camera on specific paintings and tell you about each, or you’ll be able to click my website link (right on my tile beside the chat window) to see very good quality images, along with pricing and framing options. You can buy right there and then, or discuss options and terms in the chat with me if you like. (Free safe shipping is offered on all items on my website.)
Labor Day Weekend, I’ll be working in my studio, surrounded by paintings, with my camera and mic on, ready to chat from 10-4 each day.
