Two Weekends: October 2 & 3, October 16 & 17
As an artist, I welcome solitude to work on my paintings. As a human, I miss all the interaction that happens when I am able to meet art appreciators and other artists.
This art tour has been happening for over thirty years, and I have been a participant for over twenty of those years. The tour was cancelled last year due to Covid, when no vaccines were yet available, as were most art festivals and many in-person receptions. But this year it is a Go! (With appropriate caution, of course.) Richard and I are now looking forward to having visitors again, during the 2021 Santa Cruz Arts Council Open Studio Tour.
This tour is a chance to see my working space: paintings in various stages of completion, my palette and favorite paint colors, and framing materials. I have been working on a large commission of Lake Miramar near San Diego, and documenting the various stages over the past 2 months. I plan to have this story board available for you to see.
We’ll be encouraging people to social distance, and will try to avoid overcrowding the studio itself. I’ll have a display booth with many completed paintings outside, in front of my studio, so visitors can social distance. If you prefer to just browse the outside exhibit, my husband or I can move paintings of interest in and out.
We will also request that everyone wears a mask while visiting. My husband and I are both vaccinated, and I hope for your own safety you are as well.
Enjoy the range of art on your tour of Santa Cruz County Art Studios:
I will be open from 11am to 5pm, on October 2,3, 16, &17. October 2 & 3 are the south county artists’ weekend. You can plan your tour with the guide, available at many locales, and see various other art forms from metal sculpture, glass, jewelry, collage, woodworking and many more. The tour is also an opportunity to visit less traveled locales in our community. If you miss this weekend, many of us will return for the all county weekend on October 16 and 17. If neither weekend works for you, you may contact me to arrange a private visit. Please drive carefully on my street, Cherryvale Avenue, as it is a favorite place for neighbors to walk and bike, and it has a few twists and turns. Our long driveway now has some rocks placed by our neighbors which limit or eliminate pulloffs, so again drive slowly.
I will not be providing food this year, however there are many fine restaurants in Soquel that offer outdoor seating or a take out menu. There is a park with picnic tables and bathrooms on Old San Jose Rd., just past Soquel High School, Anna Jean Cummings Park, (the one with the large blue balls).
Plan a fun outing with friends in our beautiful coastal county, and definitely stop in to see me.
Looking forward to your visit,
Michele and Richard
