COASTAL LANDSCAPES
The beauties of the coast adorn the regions where land meets sea.

Capitola Summer, 12x16
SOLD. Capitola Summer, 12x16, oil on canvas. Popular beach on the Monterey Bay in Central California

Coastal Spring, 24x36
Inspired by the view looking south at the coastline from near Pigeon Point Lighthouse.

Redwood Mist
oil on canvas, 24x30. I painted this from photos I made in the very early morning on King's Mountain in Woodside, CA, atop the ridge south of San Francisco. Some mornings, as the fog burns off, the sun casts light rays through the forest, creating a magical effect.

SOLD Coastal Color
oil on canvas, 24x36. Sold. Wildflowers in bloom create brief explosions of color on our West Coast landscapes. I’ve stopped and painted several times at this spot on the coastal highway just north of Big Sur. Here, in June, gold wild yarrow is complemented by blue mist-muted mountains. From this vantage point, I can see for miles looking north. The layers of mountains, sloping down to the sea, provide an exercise in atmospheric perspective.

Sun on Big Sur
oil on canvas, 12x16 plus frame size. There are many places to stop and gaze at the headlands along California's Highway 1 near Big Sur. This location offers the depth as the coast recedes in the distance. The water in the near ocean, on a sunny day, is always emerald and turquoise. There is plenty of space to set up my easel if I can be patient with all the visitors.
These are among the most visually stunning places on our planet. My studio and home are just 2 miles from the Pacific Ocean, between San Fransisco to the north and Carmel and Big Sur to the south. I've painted at spots along the coast throughout my career as a Landscape Painter.
