FRANCE AND ITALY
The European countries I've visited offer many different landscapes and architecture.

Venice Night
11x14, oil on canvas. St Mark's Basilica, from the Grand Canal. Based on photograph I took while on a boat in the canal.

Tuscan Farmland, 9x12
It rained one day of our 2 week trip. That day, we went to the market anyway, and walked around Fivizzano. This farm view was visible from the entrance to the village.

SOLD Monastery View
9x12, oil on canvas. View from a monastery in the Tuscan hills. Mist hovered on the mountains. The tiled rooftops were complemented by the distant hills.

SOLD Castle Village
9x12, oil on canvas. This painting was created on the road approaching the castle of Veruccola. My initial wash made a "happy accident" - the texture created imitated some of the old stone walls we saw.
Every year or two, I travel to Europe for a painting trip. In 2016, I joined an art group in the south of France. Early in 2018, I traveled to Italy and spent time painting in Tuscany. Each time, I returned with a set of small plein air paintings I made in the villages and markets of these wonderfully picturesque areas.
Back home in California, I work in my studio to create larger paintings from my photos and small plein air paintings.
