“I occasionally travel south from Santa Cruz to the Elkhorn Slough. The area containing the slough, the Elkhorn National Wildlife Preserve, is a little visited but great place for walking, bird watching, appreciating the trees and just enjoying being out in nature. I’ve hiked around and kayaked in the slough. I sometimes take my paints and easel, and on this occasion I found this scene, set off with good morning lighting. I made this painting then and there.“ – mh
