HAUSMAN STUDIO
Michele Hausman's art studio in Soquel, CA is her working studio.

Coastal Muse
oil on linen, 24x36 plus frame size. Last summer, while driving to San Francisco on hwy 1, we reached the area around Pescadero State Beach. We noticed that the meadows on both sides of the highway, were covered with wildflowers in bloom: pinks and lavenders, golds, oranges, and white. I took several photos and the next week went to the same location to paint. When I returned to my studio, I decided that this location would become my focus for a lengthy study, which led to six paintings. I ended my study with Coastal Muse, which is a fun large painting that you can almost walk into.

Autumn Joy
oil on canvas, 12x16 plus frame size. Last fall, my painting group was invited to paint at La Vida Bella winery in Corralitos. I had not been out painting for some weeks so being with friends and painting in the colorful vineyard gave me great joy.

Gondola Ride
oil on canvas, 18x24 plus frame size. A visit to Venice last year inspired this painting. The gondolas on the Grand Canal are iconic symbols of this architectually unique city.

Heron Landing
oil on canvas, 24x20 plus frame size. There is special qualities to the Blue Heron which draw my attention. These birds, with their long necks and graceful flight represent the remarkable wildlife that reside in the wetlands around Watsonville.

Hidden Cove
SOLD, oil on canvas, 20x24. While painting south of Carmel with a few friends, I was invited to paint on the patio of a kind woman's home. "Hidden Cove" was the view. The tall cypress trees, with their finger like branches, point to the cove. I painted a 16x12 painting on location, but then decided to paint more of the cove and ocean. This studio painting was the result. I am now contemplating a larger vertical so I can have more of the cypress and cliffs in the scene.

Lupine Field
oil on canvas, 18x24 plus frame size. After painting a smaller painting on location, I wanted to create a larger statement of this scene. Using the atmosphere to create depth, the sloping planes of the hillside are countered more subtlety by sky angle of the fog. In the spring, I search for these blue flowers, often finding them in our neighboring parks.

Pinot Vines
oil on canvas, 12x16, plus frame size. Painted plein air in the vineyard in Woodside, CA as a study for a large commissioned painting.

Provence Poppies
oil on canvas,18x24 plus frame size. This scene, looking at Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt in the background, was painted after my trip to the area a few years ago. The red poppies abound in meadows around Provence in the late spring.

Sea Lavender
oil on linen, 24x36, plus frame size. The color of these sea lavender flowers along the Pacific Coast stopped me in my tracks on a plein air expedition with fellow artists. The painting I did that day led later to this larger studio work. I emphasized the shadows' lavender to unify the painting.

Sea Spring, 11x14
oil on canvas panel, 11x14, displayed on easel. I plan to make a large painting based on this plein air painting. It is on my easel to help with gridding the large canvas.

Spring Colors
*SOLD * oil on linen, 20x30 plus frame size. View looking North along the Garrapata Coast at Big Sur, CA. This is one of my favorite west coast scenes, especially in the spring with the wildflowers abloom.

Sun on Big Sur
oil on canvas, 12x16 plus frame size. There are many places to stop and gaze at the headlands along California's Highway 1 near Big Sur. This location offers the depth as the coast recedes in the distance. The water in the near ocean, on a sunny day, is always emerald and turquoise. There is plenty of space to set up my easel if I can be patient with all the visitors.
